Dumbledore made me feel better... I like the quote. ["It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities."]

It was an interesting week.  I learned a lot about being animated and excited as a missionary and the need that we have to deliver, and not just try to deliver. Looks like I have a baptism this coming Sunday, and a bunch of people who have gone to church one or two times but haven't gone again. I'm learning a little bit about how to be more effective as a missionary and how to find the people who are ready to accept this message. Today we had interviews with the mission president. He just told me to be better and keep doing what I'm doing so I guess I'll do that!!! I have some videos from the week but not so many pictures so you'll just have to wait! Repentance is a big deal though. If we take the sacrament without repenting we're literally eating our own condemnation. Working on being a more effective and able missionary.

Sounds like a really fun weekend!

I forgot it was the fourth of July until I had to pay rent on the 5th of July. LOL, my life.

I was wondering the other day if you guys were going to have a gigantic TV in the house when I got home, because I keep going to houses where the people are out of work and their house is in shambles but they have a giant TV. Not that that's a terrible thing, just another way of thinking.

This week we got 2 people to church, but Angel didn't come. It rains a lot in the mornings and he gets a lot of pain when the weather is like that. He could still get baptized whenever he wants to do it, but we haven't gotten there yet.

I was sick for a couple of days this week, and just pushed through and suffered and worked hard anyway and I was so mentally dead and spent as a consequence. I just sat there with my plans and goals at night trying to make my brain work. So I ended up sleeping until 10:30 one morning and then I felt fine.

Not much else to report though.  We found a few people who seem to be really excited about going to church and stuff like that but didn't come through Sunday for the rain or this or that or the other. This week I'm going to get them there!! We're also going to organize the baptism of 3 different people named Gloria this week. One needs to get married, one needs to go to church 2 more times, and one needs to listen to her friends and granddaughter and start preparing herself to make a covenant with the Lord. WOOO LET'S GO!!

Haha, I think one time they taught us the same painting in Elementary school! [referring to a painting Susan made at work] Anyway looks like you guys are having some fun and keeping busy. This week was rough, it was very rainy Sunday and none of our investigators went to church. We'll see what we can get going for this coming week though. Everyone just tells me to not get overly stressed about it. Not much else to report though! Glad to know that things are going well. Just doing what I can out here, trying to get better at it, all that. Hopefully next week I'll have some good news to report!

Also I know it doesn't or shouldn't matter that much, but this is the first month of my mission that we haven't baptized anyone :(. But onward and upward we go, no?

Lots of love,

My Leg is fine! It just hurt for a week but we're all good now, don’t worry. [We heard he had injured his leg] And the photos [from last week] were of a sunrise. I can't believe Sayre is home! That leaves Ryan Bos and... well then it's me! It's hot here, but not that hot! I got lucky in that Tuxpan gets hot but not as crazy hot as the next city over. It is very humid though! We sweat nonstop all day and it gets kinda gross but that’s ok. It's starting to rain a lot, these past couple of days it rains pretty hard in the morning. Still wondering if I'll get to see a hurricane!

Elder Rodriguez is the bomb! He's from Cuernavaca, if I didn’t tell you, and now has 4 weeks left in his mission. He's teaching me a lot and we're working like crazy. Had a cool and then a kind of saddening experience this week. We were struggling quite a bit to find new investigators, and have a goal as a zone that everyone baptized the 19th, and the people who would have sufficient assistences [attendances] to be baptized that day would have to assist the first time Sunday (yesterday). We fasted on Thursday, forced the members [of the church] to do a bunch of divisions [splits] with us, and ran all over the area contacting people and looking for opportunities to teach. The people who were willing to listen weren’t really willing to do anything and by the second appointment were already losing interest and denying invitations to read and go to church. We kept our confidence in the Lord and in the fast we had done in that we would find the family we had been praying for.

Saturday came along. The goal is that every day of the week you find 2 new investigators. In the morning we contacted several people who weren’t really interested, but then in the afternoon we talked to a woman who we had an appointment with, and while we were talking in the doorway, about ten people walked into her house, from age 9 to 25 more or less. I asked her if they were friends or family, she said they were family, and then invited us inside. THEY WERE ALL FAMILY, WHAT!!!!! Several of the nieces and nephews left before we started teaching but we taught the mother and her 3 sons and their cousin who lives in the area of some other missionaries, and they accepted all of the invitations. Then we went with the neighbors of some other members and they accepted everything as well. We got home with 6 new investigators and a ton of excitement for Sunday.

Unfortunately, the only investigators who went to church were 2 people who had gone previously, and are making progress for their baptism. I was really put out, even though this is basically what happens every week. It's hard now that I'm senior companion because I really feel responsible even more for how things go for us. I was asking myself all day, what more could I have done? I was working with the members, I was putting goals and then making plans, I was praying, we were united in our purpose as companions, we practiced in the morning, what was it that I hadn't done? What was I missing?

Then I read in the Book of Mormon this morning and got my answer. Oh, also I finished the Book of Mormon again! I'm also reading 6 pages a day in English though, outside of my study time, for a goal the mission president gave us, and in English I was reading in Jacob 5 and that's where I got my answer. The reference is Jacob 5:40-41 and 47. Forgive me, my internet is in Spanish and I don’t want to use my time changing it.

[40 And the wild fruit of the last had overcome that part of the tree which brought forth good fruit, even that the branch had withered away and died.
41 And it came to pass that the Lord of the vineyard wept, and said unto the servant: What could I have done more for my vineyard?
47 But what could I have done more in my vineyard? Have I slackened mine hand, that I have not nourished it? Nay, I have nourished it, and I have digged about it, and I have pruned it, and I have dunged it; and I have stretched forth mine hand almost all the day long, and the end draweth nigh. And it grieveth me that I should hew down all the trees of my vineyard, and cast them into the fire that they should be burned. Who is it that has corrupted my vineyard?]

Sometimes it isn't my fault. There's still room for improvement, but sometimes it just won't work out. It's not because I'm BAD. The same thing happens to the Lord. Anyway, that was my week! Here’s Elder Rodriguez!

Love you guys!

 First things first.. PHOTOS

Soliciting 2 employees, with a lot of desire to work, responsable. This made me laugh haha.
Anyway, I'm doing well. I found out two days later that I'm not the district leader haha. The zone leaders weren't sure and assumed it was me but found out later that its an elder in another area. I'm not complaining though, I still get to be senior companion and I don't have to call so many people every night! My companion is named Elder Rodriguez, and he has 22 months in the mission! Thankfully he's still very excited to work and make his last days count. We've had some success this week and we're looking to improve a ton in the week to come!!!

Love you guys!!

Oh sorry!! Yes the package got here!!! [we shipped a suit just over a month ago] The waist on the pants fits great, but... well... the legs are so ridiculously tight I can barely move and no one needs to see my butt in that much detail... So the suit may end up being gifted to someone else in the future, I hope that doesn't upset you guys! I have an investigator who has lupus that we've had some really incredible experiences with, and since he's so skinny and weak from the effects of the disease and medications over 12 years, the suit just might be perfect for him.

To be perfectly honest, some very powerful and unforgettable things happened this week, but I'd argue that they verge on the side of sacred, so you guys might have to just wait until Christmas to ask me about it, and we'll see if God thinks it's ok if I share. I just want to say that God keeps good on his promises, even though it doesn't always play out the way you expected.

Changes came yesterday. Elder Gonzalez is leaving :(. I really enjoyed my time with him, we got along very well and are pretty similar people. My new companion is going to have less time than I do, and I'm going to be the new district leader in this area. I don't even know how many missionaries will be in my district because they are combining two zones, but it looks like I'll be making all sorts of phone calls to take datos every night. I don't remember how to translate datos [statistics]. Not sure what my companion's name is because there are two versions. Haha next week I'll know though.

Sounds like things are going well at work and at home, I'm glad to hear it!!! I love you guys a ton and I'm so grateful for all of your support. Can you believe it's June already? Are you missing all those years of summer vacation? I was going to ask you something else... well one of these weeks I will remember. Love you a ton!

Hey guys!

My week.. my week... well it was...

AWESOME!!! and then less awesome but still great. We worked like crazy people and dragged members with us wherever we went and really got some people excited about the gospel. We had a family that we taught in the doorway twice, who just didn't really want to let us in and just asked a ton of random Bible questions, but then we brought an old friend of theirs who is a member with us, sat down inside, and ended up right in the middle of their marriage problems. I think when they finally understood the magnitude of what we were promising, they really came to be more interested in whether the message is true or not, and accepted with animo [zest] their baptismal date. We also found a sister who was inactive for 30 YEARS, but has a 23 year old son with lupus who we started teaching. He's already talking about if he could potentially go on a mission. Unfortunately of the 19 people we were expecting in church (4 of the 23 decided they didn't want to listen to us anymore) only 2 came. We're going to get these people more excited though GAHH!!! We also baptized a girl this week who missionaries have been teaching since she was 9, and she is now 23. Talk about preparation. When we got here she already knew the Book of Mormon was true. Getting a testimony of the need for baptism was another story. Anyway her active member mother and grandparents were very excited. We'll see if her dad will follow!!!

She looks very tired because she is pregnant haha! We had to put her in a primary chair in the font so she didn't have to bend over so much!!!
Love you guys! Have a great week!
